Canes Reassign Tolchinsky to Charlotte

RALEIGH, NC - Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has reassigned forward Sergey Tolchinsky to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. Tolchinsky was recalled to Carolina on Monday, and skated in the team's game on Tuesday in Boston.

Tolchinsky, 21, made his NHL debut for the Hurricanes on March 31 against the New York Rangers, earning his first NHL point with an assist on Justin Faulk's second-period goal. The Moscow native ranks fourth among Checkers skaters this season with 36 points (14g, 22a) in 67 games played. Tolchinsky (5'8", 170 lbs.) is in his first full professional season, after signing with the Hurricanes as an undrafted free agent on Aug. 22, 2013. Prior to turning professional, he totaled 237 points (87g, 150a) in 189 career Ontario Hockey League (OHL) games with Sault Ste. Marie. He has represented Russia in several international tournaments, including the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, where Russia won gold, the 2013 U18 World Junior Championship and the 2015 World Junior Championship, winning silver.
