Candace Parker Named Hanns-G ‘Go Beyond' Rookie of the Month

NEW YORK, June 3, 2008 - Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks was named the inaugural Hanns-G ‘Go Beyond' Rookie of the Month today, for games played during the month of May which tipped off the 2008 WNBA season.
In her first professional game on May 17 against the 2007 defending champion Phoenix Mercury, Parker posted the best rookie debut in WNBA history and came within two assists of a triple-double. In the Sparks' 99-94 victory over the Mercury, Parker captivated a national television audience with 34 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. Los Angeles is off to a 3-1 start with Parker contributing in every way possible. The No.1 overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft, Parker leads all rookies in scoring (19.2 ppg), rebounding (11.5 rpg) and assists (6.3 apg). She also sits atop the entire WNBA in rebounds per game and ranks among the top six in the league in points and assists per game.
On May 29 against the Indiana Fever, Parker tallied the first-ever "5x5" performance in WNBA history, posting 16 points, 16 rebounds, six blocked shots, five assists and five steals.
