Canaries Bring Back Taylor, Sign Coffman

SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries announced on Wednesday morning that the organization has come to terms with infielder Jake Taylor and utility player Cody Coffman for the 2017 American Association season.

Taylor, 30, appeared in 65 games last year for the Canaries, posting a .270 batting average to go along with 19 extra-base hits and 38 RBI. The hard hitting infielder was acquired in a trade on June 6th from the Joplin Blaster where he hit .286 with a double and a home run in 14 games.

The Rancho Cucamonga, CA native missed 21 games during the regular season due to injury, but was a threat in the lineup when healthy. Taylor hit safely in 17 of his final 19 games, going 21-for-80 (.263) with four home runs and 11 RBI.

Taylor is no stranger to a Sioux Falls uniform, having appeared in 144 games with the Birds during the 2012-13 seasons. He collected 46 extra-base hits and 55 RBI during that span, while playing defensively at first base, second base and catcher. In seven professional seasons, the Rancho Cucamonga, CA native has registered a .275 career batting average while totaling 147 extra-base hits and 211 RBI.

Coffman, 27, appeared in 64 games last season for the Pecos League's Roswell Invaders. He posted a .418 batting average while adding in 22 doubles and 22 home runs to go along with 76 RBI. Coffman also showed a patient eye at the plate, collecting 48 walks while striking out just 42 times all season.

The Cape Coral, FL native enters his fifth professional season in 2017. He holds a .365 career batting average and 201 career hits to go along with 145 RBI, all at the independent level.

The Sioux Falls Canaries enter their 25th season on May 18th against the Sioux City Explorers at Lewis & Clark Park.
