Canadiens' Halak Named Meigray ECHL Alumnus Of The Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Former ECHL and current Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jaroslav Halak is The MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month for March.

The leading distributor of game-worn hockey jerseys and "Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL," MeiGray sold more than 700 game-worn ECHL jerseys in 2008-09 and has sold more than 3,600 since it became "The Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL" in 2002-03.

The 24 year old was 7-2-1 with a goals-against average of 2.03 and a save percentage of .921 in 10 games. He started March off by recording six straight wins from March 6-16 and allowing two-or-less goals in seven of his 10 appearances for the month.

Halak recorded 28 saves in a 5-3 win against Tampa Bay on March 9 while stopping 31 shots in a 3-2 shootout loss to Toronto on March 20.

The Bratislava, Slovakia native played 20 games for Long Beach as a rookie in 2005-06 and led the ECHL with a save percentage of .932 while posting a record of 11-4-2 with two shutouts and a goals-against average of 2.05 before being called up to Hamilton of the American Hockey League. Halak was 2-2-0 in four Kelly Cup Playoff games in 2006 and had a goals-against average of 3.10 and a save percentage of .910.

He has played 69 AHL games with Hamilton from 2005-2008 going 38-27-2 with 11 shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.09 and a save percentage of .930.

Selected in the ninth round (271st overall) by Montreal in the 2003 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Halak is a veteran of 96 NHL game from 2006-2010 where he has posted a record of 54-33-5 with seven shutouts, a 2.64 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage. He is 0-1-0 with a goals-against average of 1.85 and a save percentage of .906 in three playoff games.
