Canadian Rivalry Kicks off as Fury and Eddies Clash at Clarke

EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton (0W-1D-2L) faces Ottawa Fury (0W-1D-2L) in a pivotal North American Soccer League (NASL) match that will also double as an Amway Canadian Championship (ACC) preview. Both teams are looking for a win as they aim to jump back into the midst of the NASL table.

The new-look Ottawa Fury FC arrive in Edmonton less than a month ahead of their 2016 ACC preliminary round match-up versus the Eddies. The team underwent significant changes during the offseason after reaching the NASL Championship, with roster changes and a new coach in Paul Dalglish. The Fury were the latest victim of the red-hot Carolina RailHawks, who have opened their season with three-straight wins to match defending champion New York Cosmos at the top of the table.

The Eddies are coming off their second loss of the 2016 season despite playing their best football in three matches. The Edmonton side generated a flurry of chances versus opponent Tampa Bay Rowdies throughout Saturday's match but were just off on their final ball. A last minute penalty kick to salvage a point was denied by Rowdies goalkeeper Matt Pickens.

Among the storylines for Sunday's contest is the match up between Canadian internationals Nik Ledgerwood, Julian de Guzman and Marcel de Jong. It will be the first time that the three players have met in NASL action after playing as teammates on the international stage. A loss to either the Fury or Eddies will put that team in tough for the remainder of the NASL Spring Season as the 10-game season enters its second half.

"I'm excited about our next home game versus Ottawa," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said. "It's a very important game for us because we want to build on what was arguably our best performance of the season down in Tampa Bay. We want to bring those positives back to our home crowd and home field advantage against an Ottawa side that is very much in the same sort of position as we are at moment."

This weekend's action at Clarke Field kicks off on April 24, as Canadian rival and 2015 NASL runner-up Ottawa Fury FC arrive for a pivotal NASL match up that will also act as a 2016 Amway Canadian Championship preview.
