Calgary, AB - Marek Skvrne (pronounced skrin-yuh) snapped a 1-1 third period tie with 9:18 remaining to lift the Kelowna Rockets past the Calgary Hitmen 3-1 on Sunday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

James Hilsendager and Conner Bruggen-Cate, into an empty net, also scored for the B.C. Division leading Rockets.

Mark Kastelic set a new career high for goals in a single season scoring Calgary's lone marker on a first period power play. He now has 14 goals to surpass last year's total.

The Hitmen, playing their third game in as many days and eighth contest in 11 days, were outshot 30-22.

Calgary opens a three-game East Division road trip on Wednesday, Jan. 10, in Moose Jaw against the Warriors. Radio broadcast on Sportsnet 960-The Fan begins at 6:00 p.m. MT. The swing will also take the Hitmen to Brandon (Jan. 12) and Regina (Jan. 13). Calgary returns home on Tuesday, Jan. 16, to host the Saskatoon Blades. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
