CALGARY HITMEN Hitmen Roster Reduced to 53

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club has trimmed its Main Camp roster from 86 players to 53, leaving 29 forwards, 18 defencemen and six goalies.

The moves come as the team prepares for tomorrow's annual Calgary Hitmen Intra-Squad game at Max Bell Centre (1001 Barlow Trail SE) with a 7:00 p.m. start. The Aug. 31 contest will be hosted by the AJHL's Calgary Canucks. Tickets, priced at $7 for adults and $2 for children, are available at the door with proceeds supporting the Canucks.

Tonight saw the end of main camp scrimmages with four games Tuesday at Don Hartman North East Sportsplex. Each session consisted of a pair of 30-minute straight time periods with penalty shots replacing power plays. Below is a recap of each contest.

Game 1: Team Grey 7 Team Red 3

Jake Bean and Carsen Twarynski both scored twice for Team Grey while Jordy Stallard added three assists. Jackson Niedermayer topped Team Red with two goals.

Game 2: Team Black 3 Team White 2

Zach Huber, a 2015 fourth-round bantam pick, scored the gamer winner for Team Black who jumped out to a 3-1 lead.

Game 3: Team Black 6 Team Red 2

Beck Malenstyn recorded two goals and two assists to lead Team Black with Andrew Fyten chipping in a goal and an assist.

Game 4: Team Grey 4 Team White 3

Jake Bean set up a pair of goals to lead Team Grey while Noah Geekie picked up two assists for Team White.

The Hitmen open their six-game exhibition schedule on Friday, September 2 at the Red Deer Tournament against the Prince George Cougars. The schedule also includes one pre-season game at the Scotiabank Saddledome when the Hitmen host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday, September 10 in a 7:00 p.m. start. Tickets are $7 and now on sale at Ticketmaster locations and the Scotiabank Saddledome box office.

The 72-game 2016-17 regular season schedule begins with the Adrenalin Source For Sports Home Opener on Friday, September 23 against the Kootenay ICE at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Game time is 7:00 p.m.

Calgary Hitmen season tickets for the 2016-17 campaign are available now at the Scotiabank Saddledome box office or by calling 403-777-4646. Packages include complimentary tickets to the first two Hitmen home playoff games along with game day savings vouchers for concessions, tickets and merchandise. They also feature a flexible exchange program where all unused Hitmen regular season tickets can be exchanged for another game during the same season.
