CALGARY HITMEN Hitmen Defenceman Jake Bean Named To Canada's World Junior Team
December 18, 2017 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
Bean helped Canada claim silver at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship with the 2018 tournament set to begin in Buffalo, N.Y., on Boxing Day.
"To make Team Canada once is a great accomplishment, to make it twice showcases how elite of a player he is," said Hitmen general manager Jeff Chynoweth. "This is a well-deserved opportunity and we look forward to following Jake and Team Canada in their pursuit of a gold medal."
Bean is in his fourth season with the Hitmen and currently leads the club in scoring with 27 points in 25 games. His Hitmen resume is impressive highlighted by a pair of franchise records. In 2015-16 he tallied 24 goals to set a new single-season franchise mark for goals by a blueliner while in 2014-15 he also established a club record for most points by a rookie defenceman with 39. Bean is a two-time winner of the Hitmen Tommy Gun's Original Barbershop Top Defenceman Award and has also received the Hitmen Booster Club Fan Favourite, Chrysler Canada Inc. Scholastic Player Award and RE/MAX Rookie of the Year honour in addition to being named WHL Eastern Conference Most Sportsmanlike Player in 2015-16 and a WHL Second Team All-Star in 2016-17.
Joining Bean at the 2018 World Juniors is his Hitmen defence partner Vladislav Yeryomenko who earlier this month was named to Team Belarus.
