C.J. Henry returns from disabled list

May 8, 2006 - South Atlantic League (SAL1) - Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees announced Monday that shortstop C.J. Henry has been placed back on the RiverDogs active roster. Henry was placed on the disabled list on April 17 for precautionary reasons, due to leg tightness. Catcher/infielder J.T. LaFountain has been assigned to the Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League.

Henry, the Yankees first round draft selection a year ago, has joined the RiverDogs on the road at Asheville. The 19-year-old was batting .172 with a double, home run, and four RBI in nine games with the RiverDogs before being placed on the disabled list. In his first professional season he helped lead the Gulf Coast Yankees to the 2005 GCL championship while batting .249, with three home runs, and 17 RBI in 48 games. The first round draft selection in 2005, 17th overall, was the Yankees highest first round selection in over a decade. Prior to the 2006 season, Henry was rated as the Yankees' 4th best prospect by Baseball America.

LaFountain joined the RiverDogs on April 17 when Henry was placed on the disabled list. LaFountain appeared in four games, two at catcher and two at third base, going 1-4 from the plate. In 2005 LaFountain split time between the GCL Yankees and the Staten Island Yankees and hit a combined .207 with five RBI in 22 games. Signed as a non-drafted free agent in June of 2005, the 24-year-old played his college ball at the University of Louisville.
