Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

ALBANY, N.Y. - Bobby Butler had a career night with four goals and an assist to lead the Albany Devils to a 6-3 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Times Union Center.

The game was knotted at one after the first intermission but two quick strikes by the Devils in the opening two minutes of the second period put them up, 3-1. An outlet attempt by the Penguins was picked off by Jacob Josefson and quickly fed to Harri Pesonen for a one-timer at 1:03.

Forty-five seconds later, Joe Whitney intercepted another Wilkes-Barre/Scranton clearing attempt and the puck was eventually worked around to Butler for his second goal of the game.

Brian Dumoulin helped the Penguins get back within one at 3:16 as he trailed into the Devils zone, accepted a pass from Riley Holzapfel and picked a corner on Albany's netminder Keith Kinkaid.

Butler completed the hat trick and allowed the Devils to go back up by two at 8:03 after finding a loose puck in his own end and racing up-ice for a shorthanded breakaway goal.

Albany then built a four-goal cushion on Butler's fourth goal of the night, a wrist shot off a faceoff win at 5:35 of the third that made the score, 6-3.

The Penguins answered back once again with 4:20 remaining until the second intermission when Paul Thompson found Jayson Megna, who snapped the puck through the pad of Kinkaid for his second goal of the season.

Holzapfel and Beau Bennett combined at 11:28 of the first period to give Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 1-0 lead. Bennett threw a puck in on goaltender Keith Kinkaid and Holzapfel beat the Devils defense to the rebound before lifting a backhand shot to the top of the net.

With 2:18 left in the opening period, a long rebound off a shot by Joe Morrow created and odd-man rush for Albany. Joe Whitney feathered a centering pass that Butler knocked by Brad Thiessen to tie the game, 1-1. Thiessen finished the game with 21 saves on 27 shots.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will face the Binghamton Senators at Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday, Dec. 14 at 7:05PM. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Holiday Hat Trick and Stocking Stuffer ticket packages are available now by contacting the Penguins directly at 570-208-7367.
