Busby Scores Birthday Goal, Firebirds Fall to Erie in Overtime

Flint, Mich. - Alex Peters scored two goals, Dennis Busby scored his first OHL goal and Jalen Smereck tallied an assist as the Firebirds fell to the Erie Otters 4-3 in overtime Friday night.

Peters opened the scoring for the Firebirds at 13:59 of the first frame when he scored his fourth goal of the season shorthanded after he cleaned-up a shot from Everett Clark in the crease to put Flint up 1-0.

Flint doubled their lead 1:12 later when Busby scored his first OHL when Nicholas Caamano (Dallas Stars) dished a perfect pass to Busby backdoor, who buried for his first OHL goal on his birthday. The Firebirds led 2-0 after the first period of play.

Erie's Darren Raddysh cut the deficit to one with his 10th goal at the 6:48 mark of the second period when he fired a shot from the right-circle off the face-off that beat Garrett Forrest.

Warren Foegele (Carolina Hurricanes) knotted-up the game at two, 11 seconds later. with his 13th goal of the season after Alex DeBrincat (Chicago Blackhawks) fed him a pass in the slot. Foegele ripped a shot that beat Forrest

Erie scored their third consecutive goal and earned their first lead of the game when Kyle Pettit (Vancouver Canucks) buried his 16th goal of the season, finishing off a tic-tac-toe play from the slot that beat Forrest far-side to put the Otters up 3-2 after two periods of play.

The captain tied-up the game for the Firebirds for his fifth goal of the season and second goal of the night with 4:02 remaining in the contest after he corralled the puck that caromed off the post and fired a wrist-shot form the right-circle, beating Timpano glove-side to even the score 3-3.

The score remained tied after 60 minutes of play and would need overtime to determine a winner.

Darren Raddysh sealed the game for Erie with 11 seconds remaining in overtime when he scored his 11th goal of the season and second of the night after he buried his own rebound to end the game 4-3.

Flint outshot Erie 33-28. The Firebirds were a perfect five-for-five on the penalty kill but were scoreless on two power-plays. Forrest made 24 saves on 28 shots.

Upcoming Home Game:

The Flint Firebirds return home to the Dort Federal Event Center tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 7, to host the Guelph Storm. During the month of January, fans may bring in three or more canned or boxed food items to receive a complimentary Silver Level ticket. Fans may drop off donated food at the Flint Firebirds Merchandise Store to receive the discount.

Single game tickets for the Flint Firebirds 2016-17 season are $12 for Bronze, $15 for Silver, $19 for Gold and $25 for VIP seating. Prices are unchanged from last season and all seats are reserved / assigned seating. Parking has been reduced to $5 dollars which is new this season.
