West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

BURLINGTON, IA - In each the third and fourth innings, the Whitecaps scored single runs, but Burlington answered in the bottom of each inning with multi-run rallies in a 5-2 victory over the Whitecaps. The Bees earned a 2-2 split in the series.

Starting pitcher Lauren Gagnier allowed all five Burlington runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings pitched. Gagnier is the second pitcher in the Midwest League to lose ten games this season as he fell to 4-10.

West Michigan grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI single by Brennan Boesch who momentarily took over the Midwest League lead in runs batted in with 68. Brad Miller of South Bend drove in a run to match Boesch later in the evening.

The Bees scored twice in the bottom of the second. Matt Morizio tied the game with a lead off home run to right. Jeff Bianchi drove in a run on a ground ball later in the inning.

In the top of the fourth, Jeramy Laster doubled for the Whitecaps then scored on a two out single by Joe Tucker to tie the game, 2-2.

But in the bottom of the inning, Gagnier allowed four consecutive hits followed by a pair of sacrifices and a two walks as the Bees moved ahead, 5-2.

Burlington left fielder Joe Dickerson doubled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 17 games.
