Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums'(34-44) took the lead in the second, and didn't look back, defeating the Washington Wild Things(38-40), by a final score of 6-1.

With two outs in the top of the second inning, Washington's Justin Garcia hit a solo home run over the right field wall, his first in the Frontier League, giving the Wild Things a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Steven Patterson hit a single to right, extending his hit streak to ten games. Two batters later, Giancarlo Brugnoni rocketed an opposite field two-run blast for his tenth of the season, and the Bums led 2-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, Traverse City put together a two out rally, starting with a walk issued to Marcos Derkes. After Derkes stole second, Ryan Bottger drove him in with an RBI single to right. Jose Vargas followed by yanking a double down the left field line. Although Vargas was thrown out at third trying to extend the extra base hit to a triple, Bottger came in to score to make it a three run advantage. In the next frame, Kengor led off with a single to right then Patterson singled to left. With two away, a balk moved the runners to second and third, and Kendall Patrick stepped and laced a double to the center field warning track, scoring Kengor and Patterson.

After his first professional debut was washed out last week after a solid four innings, his "actual" professional debut earned Augie Gallardo his first win with an excellent six inning effort. He allowed just one run on three hits, two walks, and he struck out eight. Matt Snyder is dealt the loss for Washington, going five and one third innings, allowing all six runs on six hits, a walk, and he struck out five. He falls to 1-1.

Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums and Washington Wild Things play the rubber game of this three game series. Luke Wilkins gets the start for Washington and Kramer Champlin goes for the Beach Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the Miller Lite Pre-Game Show at 6:45pm, on 101.9- The Bay.
