BULLS' WIN STREAK SNAPPED IN 6-4 LOSS Durham out-hits Pawtucket 9-6 but leaves 11 men on base

DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls had men on the basepaths early and often Saturday night against the visiting Pawtucket Red Sox, but the Bulls struggled to bring home their wealth of baserunners resulting in 11 men being left on base in their 6-4 defeat at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

10,319 fans saw the Bulls out-hit the Red Sox 9-6 on the night, but while Durham left 11 men on Pawtucket stranded just three to give them the runs they needed to snap the Bulls' four-game win streak.

The Bulls jumped out to a quick lead in front of the packed DBAP crowd, with back-to-back doubles by Mike McKenry and Kean Wong in the second as well as a solo home run from Jake Bauers in the third giving the home team a 2-0 advantage. The bats dried up from there however, as Pawtucket scored six unanswered runs to go ahead 6-2.

The Red Sox tied the game in the fourth, with a two-RBI triple by Brian Bogusevic knotting the score at 2-2. Pawtucket then took the lead two innings later, with a double play groundout off the bat of Bryce Brentz scoring Ryan Court from third to put the road team ahead 3-2. The Paw Sox then pulled away with a three-run eighth inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double off the bat of Bogusevic for a 6-2 Pawtucket lead.

Durham attempted a late rally in the bottom of the ninth with a single by Mallex Smith and a two-run homer over the Blue Monster by Willy Adames, but the comeback stalled there resulting in the 6-4 loss.

Bauers led the Bulls' bats on the night going 3-4 with a homer, walk, and stolen base, while Adames finished 1-4 with a long ball, two RBI, and a walk.

Reliever Adam Kolarek (1-3) took the loss for Durham after allowing one run on two hits over his one inning on the mound. Pawtucket reliever Marcus Walden (4-2) picked up the win with 1.2 scoreless frames out of the pen.

The Bulls (33-21) will look to start a new win streak against the Red Sox (24-26) in rubber match of the three-game series Sunday, with LHP Ryan Yarbrough (3-3, 4.27) set to take on RHP Marcus Walden (4-2, 2.16) at 5:05 pm.
