Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The IronPigs (65-43) could not overcome a late Bulls rally, as the Durham Bulls (66-41) took a 8-2 win and the season series from the Pigs Sunday afternoon at Coca Cola Park before 9, 698 fans.
After a lead-off walk to Jake Bauers and a bloop single to left field by Johnny Field, Mike Marjama hit a three-run home run to left-center field to give the Bulls a 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth.
The Bulls would add four in the top of the sixth, as Pigs reliever Joey DeNato loaded the bases with two walks and a single. Field singled home Mike McKenry with a single to left to up the Bulls lead to 5-2. Marjama then walked, scoring Grant Kay before Taylor Featherston sent a sacrifice fly to center field to score Willy Adames to give the Bulls a 7-2 lead.
Kean Wong put a close to the Bulls four-run sixth with a RBI single to right, scoring Field, as the Bulls took an 8-2 lead.
The Pigs scored both of their runs on solo home runs, the first a solo home run for J.P. Crawford in the bottom of the third inning.
After Scott Kingery grounded out, Crawford launched his 10th home run of the season, and his eighth for the month of July. In 27 games this month, his eight home runs ties for the most in the International League with Rochester's Mitch Garver .
Pedro Florimon added a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, as the Pigs took the lead at that point before eventually falling in the later innings.
On the day, the Pigs bats went 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base.
The Pigs now take the off day before beginning a six-game road trip with a three-game set in Rochester, NY with the Red Wings at Fronteir Field. The Pigs had yet to name a starter for the opener and the Red Wings will send right-hander Dillon Gee (3-1, 2.00). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
