Bulls Fall in OT to the Lone Star Brahmas.

AMARILLO, TX - Even though it's only October it certainly felt like a playoff type atmosphere between the Amarillo Bulls and the Lone Star Brahmas on Saturday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

The Bulls rallied from a 2-0 second period deficit only to fall 3-2 in overtime to the Brahmas in the second game of a three game weekend series. The two teams will close out the match-up tomorrow (Sunday) night at 7 pm with a special guest appearance by the Dallas Stars Ice Girls.

Kosta Likourezos and Brendan Walkom netted markers for the Bulls in the loss, while Kyle Madore who was outstanding in goal, suffered the loss. It was one line that did the damage in regulation as Pete Kessel, and Drake Glover scored for the Brahmas. Levi Wunder tapped home the game winner early into the extra session.

Special teams put the Amarillo Bulls behind in the opening period as Pete Kessel scored for Lone Star from Drake Glover at 5:51. The Bulls pushed forward and Hayden Broomhead gave the Bulls their best chance when his hard shot was turned aside by Erik Gordon. Kyle Madore, who made his first start for the Amarillo Bulls since the North American Hockey League Showcase, played well came up with some nice glove saves. The Brahmas outshot the Bulls 13-3 in the first period.

It was a hard-fought, tight-checking second period that featured plenty of physicality after the whistle. The Brahmas jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Pete Kessel scored his 2nd of the game on a redirect near the six minute mark of the stanza. After that, the Bulls mounted their comeback. It was spurred by the combination of George Mika and Kosta Likourezos who worked together for the first goal. Mika sent in Likourezos on a breakaway, who was able to score at the 8:06 mark. Eric Cooley got an assist on the play and set the sequence up when he blocked a shot in the Bulls' zone. Near the end of the period, Brendan Walkom scored on a rocket from the point that handcuffed goaltender Erik Gordon and went into the net. Steven Ipri provided an assist on the play. The Brahmas narrowly outshot the Bulls 11-10 in the second period.

The Bulls penalty kill got a work out in the third period but they were equal to the task as the Brahmas failed to generate any more offense. The Brahmas had a three minute extended power play as well as several other opportunities that certainly got the Bulls' fans charged up. Goaltender Kyle Madore made some highlight real saves with his glove to preserve the tie and force the extra session. In overtime the Bulls failed to clear their own zone and Levi Wonder finished off some hard work, scoring from Hunter Stanley and Simon Loof.

The Amarillo Bulls were outshot 35-25 by the Lone Star Brahmas in the contest. There were seven combined power plays with the Brahmas going 1-for-5 and the Bulls were 0-for-2.

There is just one game left in the weekend series between the Amarillo Bulls and the Lone Star Brahmas. The two teams will meet tomorrow (Sunday) night at 7 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. The Dallas Stars Ice Girls will be in attendance to mingle with fans, sign autographs and take pictures.
