Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls were looking at Brendan Furry as key part of the future of next year's program that's why they made him their first tender signing this year.

The young Toledo Ohio native was called up as an affiliated player to get a few games in towards the end of this season and he has made the most of his opportunities. Furry scored two goals including the game winner in a shootout as the Bulls edged the Odessa Jackalopes 5-4 in front of an excited crowd at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center on Saturday night.

The five-goal explosion by the Bulls was the most since the first weekend in March when they struck for six against the Division leading Lone Star Brahmas. Since then it's been a power outage and the Bulls have only managed two goals or less in seven of their last eight games.

Furry's first goal gave the Bulls a 3-1 lead through two periods of play, but the visiting Jackalopes rallied in the third period with three to nearly put a damper on the home side's strong effort. With the Bulls trailing 4-3 in the final minute of regulation and the goaltender pulled, Steve Ipri sent a centering pass towards the front of the net that was tipped home by George Mika to tie the game and force overtime and then a shootout. Furry was the lone person to score as Nikita Babintsev continued his strong play in the penalty shot format. Babintsev has record just one goal against in 15 shot attempts.

Alex Truscott and Luke Edgerton had the other Bulls goals that came in the opening period.

The victory by the Bulls was their third in a row at home and it allowed them to complete their 2nd home sweep of an opponent in the last three home stands.

The Amarillo Bulls will conclude the home part of their regular season schedule on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, Apr. 1 when they host the rival Topeka RoadRunners at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center at 7 pm. Tickets are available at the Bulls Office located at 301 South Polk, Civic Center Box Office and all Panhandle Ticket locations including United Supermarkets or online at www.amarillobulls.com and www.panhandletickets.com.
