Green Bay Rockers News Release

Green Bay, Wis - That is going to do it for the 2016 Northwoods League season. The Bullfrogs fell in game 72 to the Lakeshore Chinooks by a score of 7-4. The season did not go as planned for the Bullfrogs, but it was a fun season overall. The Bullfrogs final record was 32-40.

Both offenses were quiet through the first three innings, but the Chinooks would strike first. In the top of the fourth, Kurtis Brown (Richmond) and James Bleming (Lehigh) began the inning with singles. An error by Quincy Nieporte (Florida State) loaded the bases for the Chinooks with Nick Horvath (Florida) stepping to the plate. BJ Sabol (Indiana) induced a double play ball for the first and second outs of the inning, but a run would score on the play. Down to two outs, Zac Taylor (Houston) hit a triple off the left field wall to drive in another run. Joe Duncan hit a single to bring home the third run of the inning.

The Bullfrogs would respond in the bottom of the fifth as they finally got to Chinooks starting pitcher, Jack Landwehr (Illinois State). The Kent State teammates, Brad Hamilton and Josh Hollander, got the Bullfrogs going with back to back singles. A double play off the bat of Matt Hoeg (Iowa Western CC) erased Hollander from the bases and moved Hamilton to third with two outs. A walk to Chris Botsoe (Louisville) gave Austin Clemons (Louisville) an opportunity to hit with a runner in scoring position. He was able to capitalize as he drove in both runs with a double down the left field line.

The Chinooks extended their lead over the Bullfrogs in the sixth inning. Hayden Senger (Miami-Ohio) hit a solo shot to make it a 4-2 ballgame. Then in the seventh, a couple of Bullfrogs errors gave the Chinooks a 5-2 lead. It was Senger again when the catcher hit a two run double in the eighth to give the Chinooks a five run lead.

Peter Castillo (Palm Beach State) started on the mound for the Bullfrogs. The right-hander went three innings of shutout baseball while allowing two hits. In his longest outing of the season, BJ Sabol went five innings and gave up only one earned run.

In the ninth, the Bullfrogs would mount a comeback as they got the tying run to the plate. Hollander drove in Colton Onstott (Dodge City CC), who reached on single. After a single from Matt Hoeg (Iowa Western CC), Chris Botsoe (Louisville) drove in the second run of the inning. Clemons had a chance to tie the game as he came to the plate with two runners on but grounded out to end the game.

Offensively, the Bullfrogs were led by Austin Clemons and Chris Botsoe. They combined to drive in three of the four runs and picked up three hits. Hamilton, Onstott, and Hollander all recorded a hit as well.
