Bullfrogs Can't Hang on against Loggers, Lose Sixth Straight
June 9, 2013 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
The Bullfrogs took an early lead with two runs in the first inning, but couldn't hang on in La Crosse on Sunday night. The Loggers walked off to win 3-2 and extend the Bullfrogs' losing streak to six games.
After two strikeouts to begin the game, Robert Youngdahl (Notre Dame) and Jose Godinez (St. Norbert) each reached base and later scored the only Bullfrog runs of the night on a Boomer White (TCU) single to give Green Bay an early 2-0 lead.
The game remained scoreless until the fourth, when Brandon Defazio singled home Nick Day to cut the Bullfrog lead in half.
Starter Bryce Bellin (Minnesota State) dodged trouble all night long, three times stranding the bases loaded to keep La Crosse's offense limited. Bellin walked six, gave up six hits, and struck out six while allowing one earned run in five innings of work.
He was relieved by Luke Watson (UW-Stevens Point) and Derek Peterson (Gonzaga), both of whom pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
The Bullfrogs then turned to right-hander Michael Fain (Nevada), who pitched a scoreless eighth before running into trouble in the ninth.
A bevy of defensive miscues allowed La Crosse to rally in the ninth inning. Kevin Zak reached on a catcher's interference call to begin the inning. Later in the inning, with Zak on first, La Crosse's Nick Day hit what could have been a double play ball to shortstop, but Trevin Sonnier (Dallas Baptist) couldn't handle it, and the bases were loaded.
Another defensive miscue loaded the bases, and then La Crosse used two singles, one from Brandon Defazio and a game-winner from Matt Risdon, to walk-off for a victory.
Fain (1-1) took the loss. James Guillen (1-0) earned the victory for La Crosse.
The Bullfrogs return to Joannes Stadium on Monday to take on the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Join us at The Jo for Social Media Mondays with KISS FM and Margaritaville Monday Beach Party #1!
