Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - Six Bulldogs players had a multipoint game as Hamilton defeated the Cleveland Barons by a score of 7-1 in front of a season high 9,861 fans at Copps Coliseum on Wednesday night.
Hamilton opened the scoring just 1:17 into the game while on the penalty kill. Francis Lemieux picked up a loose puck deep in the Barons zone and fed a wide open J.J. Hunter in front of the net who made a few moves and then slid the puck past Cleveland goaltender Nolan Schaefer. Jeff Paul also earned an assist.
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead at 3:55 of the first when Pierre Dagenais picked up a pass in the slot from Corey Locke and took a low shot that beat Schaefer on the stick side. The Dogs made it 3-0 just 1:48 later when Andrei Kostitsyn dangled around a Barons player and rifled a shot into the top corner of the net.
At the 16:00 mark, the Bulldogs extended their lead while on a two-man advantage when Dagenais wired a slap shot from the high slot for his second goal of the game.
Cleveland got on the board 0:46 seconds into the second period when Josh Hennessy buried a rebound over the shoulder of Bulldogs goalie Yann Danis.
The Bulldogs scored two goals 0:28 seconds apart late in the second period to make the score 6-1. Lemieux scored at 16:31 while on the power play after he found the puck in a scramble in front of the Barons net and shot it in. At 16:59, J-F Jacques picked up a Duncan Milroy rebound and backhanded a shot past Schaefer.
Bulldogs forward Kyle Chipchura scored his first career AHL goal at 13:44 of the third period when he picked up a breakaway pass from Milroy and went in alone on Schaefer. Chipchura faked to his backhand, then went forehand and roofed the puck to round out the scoring.
