Bucks Sign Defenseman Searle

The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Tuesday that they have signed rookie defenseman Kyle Searle for the 2010-11 season. Searle spent the last four seasons playing for York University (CIS).
The 24-year-old Searle put up a total of 77 points (14-63=77) and picked up a combined 170 PIM's in 110 career games with York.
"Kyle is a tough, solid defenseman that we were looking for this offseason," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "He's a skilled d-man who has a ton of potential. He's one of the guys we were after quite a bit."
Last season Searle, a native of Newtonville, Ontario, finished fourth among defensemen in the OUA conference with 24 points (1-23=24) and picked up 36 PIM's in 28 games. Last season Searle notched career highs in assists (23) and points (24).
During the 2008-09 season Searle scored 13 points (5-9=13), including a career high five goals and 62 PIM's in 27 games. In 2007-08 the 5'10'', 215 pound Searle had 23 points (4-19=23) and 26 PIM's in his sophomore campaign, while in his freshman season of 2006-07 Searle picked up 17 points (4-13=17) and had 46 PIM's in 28 games.
"A lot of people involved in Canadian University (CIS) hockey like Searle's game quite a bit," Ruskowski said. "He's a consistent player and a sound defenseman. If we are going to improve our defense this season we need everyone on the same page."
Prior to his collegiate playing career Searle spent five seasons in junior hockey in the OPJHL splitting time with the Couchiching Terriers, Cobourg Cougars and Lindsay Muskies.
In 213 career junior contests Searle picked up 180 total points (52-128=180) and a combined 286 PIM's.
Searle is the 14th Buck signed for the 2010-11 season.
