St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - At 6'4, 230 lbs., Brian Buchanan is used to being noticed on the field. For the second time this season, his on-field production is drawing off-field notices as well.

The ex-Minnesota Twin has been named American Association Batter Of The Week for his power-laden efforts last week. It is the second time in the last month Buchanan has been so honored. The announcement was made by Sportsticker, the league's official statistician.

Buchanan batted .619 last week (13-for-21) with four home runs and 10 RBI as the Saints took four of six games from North Division rivals St. Joe and Sioux City. He also had a 1.142 Slugging Percentage and a .600 On-Base Percentage.

Buchanan enters tonight's twi-night doubleheader at St. Joe having homered in three straight games for the second time this season.

Earlier, this year Nick Gretz and Brian Becker earned the same honor from Sportsticker. Mike Meyer was named Pitcher Of The Week in the first week of June for his four-hit shutout at Coastal Bend.

With 12 days remaining in the regular season, St. Paul (46-37 overall) leads St. Joe (43-40) by three games and Sioux City (41-43) by 5 ½ games in the battle for a Wild Card spot against Lincoln in the North Division playoffs. The Saints are on their final road trip of the season. In addition to tonight's twinbill at St. Joe, they play there tomorrow night before heading to Sioux Falls for a four-game series Wednesday-Saturday.

St. Paul returns home next Sunday to face the Blacksnakes in a 4:05 p.m. game at Midway Stadium
