Bruins sign Dan LaCouture
November 1, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins announced today that they have signed left wing and Hyannis, Massachusetts native Dan LaCouture. LaCouture will skate with the team at practice on Tuesday morning, and will travel with the team for this weekends games in Norfolk, Virginia and Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Adding Dan to our lineup gives us a good veteran winger who brings size, toughness and some scoring skill every night, said Bruins head coach Scott Gordon. He will fit right in as another good veteran leader, and as a player who plays with a lot of energy.
Im really excited to be playing again, and especially to be part of the Bruins organization, said LaCouture. Growing up in Natick, Massachusetts, I was always a Bruins fan, and its a thrill for me to put on the Black and Gold jersey. I cant wait to become part of this team and get the games underway.
LaCouture, 27, is entering his eighth professional season. He played at Boston University during the 1996-97 season, before beginning his professional career with the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL) in 1997-98. LaCouture made his NHL debut with the Edmonton Oilers in 1998-99, and reached the NHL for good with the Oilers in 2000-01. He has also played in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers. In 2003-04, LaCouture posted 5-2-7 totals and 82 PIM in 59 games with New York. LaCouture has 16-23-39 totals and 278 PIM in 265 career NHL games, and 55-41-96 totals and 189 PIM in 219 career AHL games. He was originally selected by the New York Islanders with their second pick (second round), 29th overall, in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
LaCouture will be a featured guest on the 2004-05 season premiere of Providence Bruins Weekly Presented by National City Mortgage. The show will air on Tuesday, November 2 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on WSKO AM-790, The Score. Adam Alper hosts the show, which will also feature live discussions with Bruins head coach Scott Gordon and Providence-Journal beat writer Joe McDonald.
