Bruin's Pighin Named Boston Pizza WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. - The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Evan Pighin of the Chilliwack Bruins.
Pighin picked up eight points, scoring five goals and three assists to go with a +3 rating in four games over the last week, helping the Bruins post a 2-2 record in that span.
On Wednesday, March 12th, the Bruins travelled to the Okanagan area to take on the Kelowna Rockets. Pighin netted two goals in the contest, which was not enough, as his Bruins fell 5-4 to the Rockets. He was also named the games 3rd Star.
On Friday, March 14th, back in the friendly confines of Prospera Centre in Chilliwack, the Bruins hosted B.C. Division rivals the Kamloops Blazers. Pighin picked up the game winning goal and added an assist as the Bruins downed the Blazers 3-1. He was also named the games 1st Star.
The following evening, Saturday, March 15th, the Bruins hosted the Everett Silvertips at Prospera Centre. Pighin had another strong outing scoring two goals, including the game winner, and one assist as the Bruins defeated the Silvertips 5-1. He was also named the games 1st Star for the second night in a row.
On Sunday, March 16th, the Bruins took the short ride to the Pacific Coliseum to face west coast rivals the Vancouver Giants to close out the regular season. Pighin managed to pick up one assist in a losing effort as the Giants topped the Bruins 5-3.
Pighin, a 19 year old from Vancouver, British Columbia, is currently in his second season of play in the Western Hockey League. He spent last season playing with the Red Deer Rebels, before joining the Chilliwack Bruins near the start of this season.
The WHL has also nominated Chet Pickard of the Tri City Americans for the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week Award.
