Summary Former University of Akron pitcher J.T. Brubaker earned his first Double-A win with a six-inning, six-strikeout performance Friday, as the Altoona Curve slipped by the Akron RubberDucks, 5-4, at PNG Field.

Turning Point The Curve (6-3) erased a 4-3 deficit with a pair of runs in the sixth inning against Akron reliever Mitch Brown (0-1). After a leadoff double by Jordan Luplow, catcher Zane Chavez drove in the tying run with a single to right. Chavez moved up to third on a wild pitch and groundout, and came home on a sacrifice fly to left by Elvis Escobar to give Altoona a 5-4 lead.

Winging It Brubaker (1-1) worked six innings and allowed four runs, two earned. He walked only one. A graduate of Tecumseh High School in New Carlisle, Ohio, Brubaker played three years of baseball at the University of Akron before the school disbanded the program. He was drafted by the Pirates in the 6th round of the 2015 draft. On the RubberDucks side, right- hander Nick Pasquale started for Akron and allowed three runs in 4.2 innings. Pasquale walked four and fanned two.

Duck Tales Dorssys Paulino slugged a solo homer in the second inning, his first at Double-A, and added a RBI single in the fourth.

The RubberDucks (2-7) scored two more in the fifth on a wild play. With two outs, Greg Allen was hit by a pitch and stole second. Tyler Krieger laced a single to left, and Allen attempted to score from second base. The throw from left field beat Allen, but Chavez dropped the ball for an error. Krieger was still running toward third. Brubaker picked up the ball and overshot third base with his throw, allowing Krieger to score and give Akron a 5-4 lead.
