Brown's Strong Start Leads RedHawks to Win over Wingnuts
June 22, 2018 - American Association (AA) - Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, ND - Fargo-Moorhead (17-15) capitalized on a strong outing from DJ Brown and converted on offense to seal a 6-3 win over a Wichita Wingnuts (20-13) team that came into Friday night's game riding a six-game winning streak.
Brown threw seven innings of two-run ball tonight for his third win of the season. The right-hander struck out six and walked one while giving up seven hits. Both Wichita runs came in the fifth inning.
The RedHawks got on the board early, putting up three runs in the second inning courtesy of RBI singles from Tim Colwell, Maikol Gonzalez, and Devan Ahart. Ahart finished the game 3-4 with two runs, and RBI, a walk, and an assist on the putout of a Wingnut at home plate from his position in left field in the seventh inning.
A run each in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings gave Fargo-Moorhead a 5-2 lead after Wichita scored their two runs in the fifth. RBI singles from Keury De La Cruz - in the fourth and sixth - and Tim Colwell, respectively, were the catalysts in the middle innings.
The Wingnuts came back with a run against Travis Ballew in the eighth inning, but Andrew Woeck came on to get the save, his first of the season, with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.
The RedHawks move to two games above .500 at 17-15 and pick up a game on the division-leading St. Paul Saints with Winnipeg's win at CHS Field tonight. Fargo-Moorhead is 1.5 games behind St. Paul and can win its fourth consecutive series with a victory tomorrow night against Wichita. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00PM.
