Syracuse Crunch News Release

Worcester, Mass.. - J.T. Brown's four points, including the Crunch's first hat trick of the year, led Syracuse over Worcester, 6-1, Sunday at DCU Center. Equaling their largest margin of victory of the season, the Crunch extended their franchise record to nine consecutive road victories and now have sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference.

Brown's first two goals - his first since Oct. 19 in Albany - along with Tyler Johnson's first of two put Syracuse ahead 3-0 less than seven minutes into the contest. After Bracken Kearns managed to get Worcester on the board at 16:37 of the first with his seventh of the year, the Crunch padded their lead with power play goals from Tyler Johnson in the second and Dmitry Korobov in the third. Brown completed the hat trick with 2:29 left in regulation to cap the 6-1 victory.

Plus-1 for the night, Jared Nightingale stood out in the opening frame, hitting the post with a shot, earning an assist on Brown's second goal - Nightingale's third helper of the year - and fighting with Frazer McLaren. Brett Connolly posted three assists - now 10 for the season - with helpers on Brown's first and third goals, plus Korobov's. Richard Panik tallied the lone assist on Johnson's first goal, extending his scoring streak to a league-best 10 games. Philip-Michael Devos had assists on Brown's second and third goals, Devos's third and fourth assists of the season.

Mark Barberio suffered a check to the head in the second period at the hands of Matt Pelech. Barberio exited the ice following the hit, but returned to the bench in the third. Pelech was given a match penalty, upping his league-leading penalty minutes to 87 with 37 in the last two games. The ensuing five-minute power play featured a flurry of action around the Sharks net and Johnson chipped in his second of the game when Stalock could not cover a loose puck. Johnson now leads the Crunch with 20 points and leads the AHL with 13 goals.

Dustin Tokarski earned his eighth win of the season in his 11th appearance, turning away 25 of 26 Worcester shots. Alex Stalock suffered his second loss in his last 10 games, stopping 30 of Syracuse's 36 shots.

The Crunch penalty kill stopped each of Worcester's three man-up chances and has foiled 38 of the last 40 opposing power plays. Killing 82 of 92 this season, the Crunch are second best in the AHL at 89.1 percent.

Syracuse continues a stretch of five straight road games, visiting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Friday, Connecticut Saturday and Binghamton Sunday.
