BURLINGTON, VT --- Brooklyn pitching and timely hitting helped led the Cyclones to a 5-3 New York-Penn League victory Thursday night at historic Centennial Field.

Brooklyn starter Trent Johnson (1-0) allowed one run on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts over the first five innings to pick up the victory. Yezio Campos took over in the sixth and went 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and five strikeouts, before Keaton Aldridge came on to record the final out with the tying run at the plate for his first save.

The Cyclones scored single runs in the third and fourth innings on RBI singles from Franklin Correa and Ian Strom to take a 2-0, then added two more runs in the sixth including a Jeremy Wolf RBI double for a 4-1 advantage.

Vermont got its first run of the night in the fifth on a Javier Godard RBI single that plated Jesus Lopez, who then cut the Brooklyn lead to 4-2 with a solo homer in the seventh inning for the Lake Monsters first home run of the season.

The Cyclones added a run in the ninth on a Reed Gamache RBI single, while Jesus Lage's two-out RBI single in the ninth scored Robert Bennie to get the Lake Monsters back within two runs before Alridge got Godard to ground into forceout to end the game. Vermont has now lost five straight games to Brooklyn (2-1) overall and four of the last five played at Centennial Field.

Lake Monsters starter Argenis Blanco (0-1) allowed 2 runs on four hits over 4 2/3 innings to take the loss, while reliever John Gorman gave up one run on two hits with three strikeouts over three innings in his first game action since the end of the 2015 season. Godard, Lopez, Lage and James Terrell each had two hits as Vermont (1-3) outhit Brooklyn 10-7.

The Lake Monsters and Cyclones will wrap up the three-game series at Centennial Field on Friday night starting at 7:05 pm.
