Broncos Shutout in Edmonton
September 29, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Swift Current Broncos News Release
Swift Current met the Edmonton Oil Kings in their second road game of the season and scoring woes affected the outcome as the Broncos were shutout 5-0 at Rogers Place on Friday night.
The Broncos hung in tough to kill off their first penalty of the night but the Oil Kings' Ethan Cap scored seconds after the penalty to forward Andrew Fyten expired at the 17:14 mark of the first.
Before the first period expired, Oil Kings forward Brett Kemp banged in his fourth goal of the season when he was stationed by the Bronco crease after Quinn Benjafield's initial shot was stopped by goaltender Joel Hofer.
Swift Current stayed on pace with Edmonton in back and forth hockey for the first half of the middle frame but then it was troublesome as the Oil Kings scored three straight. Vince Loschiavo fired home a cross ice one-timer pass from Trey Fix-Wolansky to extend the deficit to 3-0.
Oil Kings forward Vladimir Alistrov forced a turnover near the Broncos net and went backhand forehand on Bronco goaltender Hofer to hand Swift Current a four goal deficit which was followed by Loschiavo's second goal of the game coming on a man advantage.
Shots on goal were 21-2 for Edmonton in the second period with Hofer having stopped 29 shots overall at that point.
The Broncos could not mustard up much offence in the third period but did successfully kill off a pair of Oil Kings power plays. 5-0 was the final score as Swift Current sees its record go to 0-3-0 on the season.
Shots on goal were 47-15 in favour of Edmonton. Swift Current limited the Oil Kings to only one power play marker on five tries while going 0/2 on their own power play chances.
Swift Current will have to quickly forget this one as they are back in action on Saturday, September 29th against the Red Deer Rebels at the ENMAX Centrium. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm.
