News Release

(Bridgeport, CT- July 7, 2017) - On Friday Night out at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, The Bridgeport Bluefish (3-2, 44-31) defeated the visiting New Britain Bees (2-2, 26-45) by a score of 5-3, taking the first game of the three-game weekend series.

RHP Cory Riordan (7-3) qualified for the victory, pitching 7 innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits. The CT-Native also struck out 10 and walked none.

Riordan, a 2017 Atlantic League All-Star, struck out the side in the top of the first inning and would go 5 and 1/3 innings before allowing his first baserunner on a Jamar Walton single in the 6th, ending his bid for perfection.

In the bottom of the first, Jose Cuevas and Daniel Fields would each drive in a run with a base hit, and the 'Fish would add three more in the fourth inning, on a Jonathan Galvez homer (10) and a two-RBI double by CF D'Arby Myers.

Riordan would run into trouble in the top of the 7th, as New Britain would scratch out three runs to narrow the score to 5-3.

With a two-run lead in the 8th inning, RHP Elvin Ramirez worked out of a jam by stranding runners at the corners, striking out the potential go-ahead run in Conor Bierfeldt to end the inning and neutralize the threat.

In the 9th inning All-Star Closer David Carpenter would set down the side in order for his Atlantic League-leading 27th save.

The Bluefish and the Bees are at it again tomorrow on July 8th, where the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a President Obama Bobblehead, and all can enjoy the festivities of Bacon Night. It is another Summer Saturday out at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, with first pitch scheduled for 6:12 P.M. CLICK HERE for tickets.
