Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - Goaltender Adam Hauser earned his first shutout of the season with 19 saves as the Manchester Monarchs blanked the Albany River Rats 3-0 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in front of a crowd of 7,698 on Friday night. Manchester (17-6-1-3, 38 points) is in first place in the Atlantic Division. Albany (8-18-0-2, 18 points) is in seventh place in the Atlantic Division.
Left wing Konstantin Pushkarev's great individual effort paid off with an unassisted goal at 10:23 of the first period to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead. Pushkarev blocked a shot at the Monarchs blue-line and then carried the puck down the ice on a breakaway. With nobody between him and River Rats goaltender Frank Doyle, Pushkarev made a deke to the left at point blank range and then, with one hand on his stick, slid the puck across the goal line on the right side of Doyle.
At 10:57 of the middle frame, defenseman Mark Ardelan made it 2-0 Monarchs. Stopping the puck in the River Rats zone, Ardelan set up along the far boards. With Albany pressuring the puck, Ardelan tossed the puck towards center ice. The puck ricocheted off the skate of a River Rats player and slid through Doyle's legs for the second score of the game.
The Monarchs took a 3-0 lead at the 18-minute mark of the second period with right wing Brad Smyth's 10th goal of the season. Through great passing by the Monarchs, center Connor James slid the puck over to left wing Jeff Tambellini who was set up at the right face-off dot. With a quick one-timed pass by Tambellini to Smyth on the left doorstep of Doyle, Smyth was able to chip the puck in for the goal.
Hauser (12-5-2) earned his 12th win of the season stopping 19 shots. Doyle (6-10-2) took the loss with 31 saves.
Manchester went 0-for-3 on the power play. Albany was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
The Monarchs head south to face the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday, December 17 at 7:35 p.m. at the Tsongas Arena.
