Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that catcher Brian Olson has been promoted to Fort Myers and that catcher Kevin Garcia will join the Kernels from Fort Myers. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
Olson played in eight games for the Kernels this season, batting .296 (8-27) with three doubles and 4 RBI. He was selected by the Twins in the 34th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of Seattle University.
The Twins signed Garcia as a non-drafted free agent on February 23, 2016. He was originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 30th round of the 2014 First Year Player Draft out of Loyola Marymount. In 16 games with the Miracle, he was batting .250 (11-44) with three doubles and 8 RBI.
Garcia is active and available for tonight's 6:35 PM game vs. Wisconsin. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster remains at the Midwest League maximum of 25, with six players currently on the DL and one player on the Restricted List.
The Kernels begin a four game series tonight at Perfect Game Field against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. It's Star Wars Night - the Kernels are wearing special Star Wars jerseys that will be sold during the game via a silent auction with the proceeds to benefit the Hydrocephalus Association and costumed members of the 501st Central Garrison will be on hand for photos with fans throughout the game.
