Brevard County Manatees News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - Three runs in the sixth inning and a quality start from Jacob Barnes propelled the Brevard County Manatees to a 5-3 win over the Tampa Yankees on Thursday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

With the game tied 2-2 going into the top of the sixth, Yadiel Rivera led off the inning by singling to left and then stealing second base.

Nick Ramirez then reached on a single to shortstop Cito Culver, whose throwing error allowed Ramirez to move to second and Rivera to score.

Later on in the frame with two out and runners on second and third, Greg Hopkins reached on an error by first baseman Jose Toussen, which allowed Ramirez and Nick Delmonico to score and give the Manatees (23-28 second half, 60-58 overall) a 5-2 lead.

The only two runs that Barnes would allow in his six innings of work came in the third inning. Peter O'Brien plated Taylor Dugas on a ground out to shortstop and then Jose Toussen doubled to center to score Robert Refsnyder.

Barnes (8-5, 3.21 ERA) scattered five hits and walked one, while striking out two to earn his team leading eighth win of the season. Of the seven starts that Barnes has made since the beginning of July, six of them have been quality starts.

The 'Tees scored the first run of the game in the top of the second as Hopkins drove in Mitch Haniger with a single to left.

After Tampa (22-28, 50-68) took a 2-1 lead in the third, Brevard tied the game in the fifth on a solo shot by Ben McMahan.

Ramirez, Haniger and D'Vontrey Richardson all had two hits each. In the month of August, Richardson is batting .406 (26-for-64) with eight multi-hit games.

The Manatees will open a three-game set with the Daytona Cubs on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach.

The two teams face-off at Space Coast Stadium in Viera on Saturday for game two of the series before returning back to Daytona for the series finale on Sunday.

Chad Pierce (5-5, 3.46) is scheduled to get the start for Brevard County, while Corey Black (4-8, 4.22) is slated to get the ball for the Cubs.
