Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS-The Lookouts plated six runs in the final three frames to defeat Mississippi 7-1 for the ninth consecutive home game, thus extending the longest home losing streak in M-Braves history.
While plating seven runs on 13 hits, Chattanooga (29-32) limited the M-Braves (23-38) to just one run on four hits and one error.
Jaime Pedroza led the Chattanooga offense with a 4-5 night at the plate including a triple and three runs scored. Alfredo Silverio added two hits, a run, and three RBIs.
Chris Withrow (2-5) picked up the win, giving up just one earned run on three hits, a walk, and six strikeouts in six innings of work.
After coming off the disabled list earlier today, former Atlanta Brave Kenshin Kawakami (1-2) came on to work one and 1/3 innings of relief. He gave up one earned run on one hit, a walk, and two strikeouts.
In his third Double-A start, Arodys Vizcaino went five frames, allowing one earned run on five hits, three walks, and five strikeouts but did not factor in the decision.
Chattanooga took an early 1-0 lead in the top of first. Hector Gimenez walked and Kyle Russell singled to put runners at the corners. Corey Smith then delivered an RBI single to plate Gimenez.
Tyler Pastornicky led off the fourth with a walk. Willie Cabrera followed with a single to place runners at first and third. Pastornicky then came in to score on a Donell Linares groundout to tie the game at 1-1.
Brad Coon walked to start the seventh before stealing second and taking third on a throwing error by the catcher, Matt Kennelly. Elian Herrera followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, giving the Lookouts a 2-1 lead.
An Alfredo Silverio two-run single in the top of the eighth extended the Lookouts' lead to 4-1. Brian Cavazos-Galvez then delivered a two-run double to make it 6-1. Chattanooga added one more in the ninth on a Silverio sacrifice fly, making it a 7-1 game.
Right-hander Randall Delgado (4-3, 3.77) toes the rubber in game two of this five-game series Friday night at Trustmark Park. He'll counter Lookouts' righty Will Savage (6-2, 3.47). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
