Braves Pass Education Day in 8-6 Win over T's

Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE--The Asheville Tourists dropped their third straight game to the Rome Braves and fourth straight overall on Wednesday morning by a final score of 8-6. For the second game in a row the Tourists fell behind big only to rally back and make things interesting.

One difference between Wednesday's 8-6 loss and Tuesday's one-run defeat was that the Tourists did overcome an early deficit to climb all the way back into the game. Asheville trailed by as many as five runs but used a five-run seventh inning to tie the game late. Rome plated two runs in the top of the eighth for their final victory margin.

Erick Julio drew the start for Asheville and struggled out of the gate. The Braves scored four runs in the top of the first; three of which came on Brett Cumberland's third Home Run of the series. Julio settled down after the rocky first frame and kept the Braves from scoring over the next four innings.

Asheville plated their first run in the bottom of the third when Jose Gomez singled home Joel Diaz. The Tourists would leave the bases loaded in the inning. Rome added two more in the sixth on an Anthony Concepcion Home Run.

Entering the seventh, the Tourists trailed 6-1. Asheville pounced on Braves' reliever Bladimir Matos which included an RBI single by Vince Fernandez, a three-run triple by Colton Welker, and a sacrifice fly by Willie Abreu.

The Tourists remain winless at McCormick Field in day games this year (0-5). Next up is a four-game road series against northern division rival Hickory. Game one against the Crawdads is on Thursday night at 7:00pm.
