Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, Va,- The Danville Braves dropped the second game of a crucial series against the Bluefield Blue Jays Wednesday nightby a 6-1 score. Danville struggled to get anything going offensively, needing a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 9th to score their only run.

Bluefield scored quickly in the first inning on a home run by Yorman Rodriguez off of Danville starter Jasseel De La Cruz (0-1) to make it 2-0 Jays. In the 4th, a 2-run double by McGregory Contreras made it 4-0, and a wild pitch that scored Contreras tacked on a fifth run for Bluefield. In the 5th, a base hit by Antony Fuentes scored Chavez Young, giving Bluefield a 6-0 lead.

The Braves failed to put a runner on second until the 8th inning, thanks to the masterful work by Blue Jays' hurlers Turner Larkins (3-0) and Jordan Barrett (1 SV). In the 9th, the Braves got on the board when Jeffrey Ramos lofted a sacrifice fly into right field. The run ensured that Danville would remain the only team in the Appalachian League to not be shut out through the season's first 48 games.

For Danville (25-23), Jean Carlos Encarnacion recorded two hits (of the team's five total hits). The Blue Jays (32-16) mustered just six hits, but a pair of RBI's by Rodriguez and Contreras did the majority of the damage.
