Bravehearts Win Game One

August 8, 2016 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Worcester Bravehearts News Release

LYNN, Mass. - The Worcester Bravehearts came into their first game of the 2016 FCBL Playoffs as one of the favorites to win it all. As the number one overall seed in the playoffs, they took to the road to faceoff against a North Shore Navigators team that has given them trouble all season long. It was a closely contested game throughout, but the Bravehearts timely hitting shined once again this season, as they edged the Navigators 5-1 to take game one of the best-of-three semi-final series at Fraser Field.

One thing that can be said about the Bravehearts is that if they needed someone to have a consistent, stellar performance in a key situation, they could count on starter Frankie Moscatiello (Rocky Point, N.Y.) all summer long. The FCBL All-Star delivered a huge performance for Worcester on the road, as he was able to go 7 1/3 innings for Worcester, giving up one run on four hits, walking two batters and striking out a Worcester Bravehearts single game playoff record 11 strikeouts!

The scoring got going for the Bravehearts in the second inning after Nick Barry (UMass- Lowell/Grafton, MA) ground into a fielder's choice, which plated the first run of the game, giving Worcester the 1-0 lead. The Navigators would match that run in the fourth inning, as Mike D'Acunti (Southeastern University/Dix Hills, N.Y.) doubled off of Moscatiello to score the tying run, making it 1-1.

North Shore's Jake Dexter (Southern Maine/Oakland, ME) kept the Navigators in the game throughout his seven innings of work. He gave up one run on six hits and struck out two batters, as he didn't factor in the decision.

That score would hold at 1-1 until the eighth inning, when the Bravehearts broke the door open for four runs. With the bases loaded, Joe Caico (New Haven/Hopedale, MA) stepped to the plate and came up with the biggest hit of the season for Worcester: a bases clearing triple to give the Bravehearts a 4-1 lead. Dylan Harris (Saint Leo/Land O Lakes, FL) would hit a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1, and that score would hold for the win.

Sean O'Neill (Brandeis/Reeding, MA) took the loss for North Shore. Tyler Lonestar (St.

Mary's/Danville, CA) closed it out for Worcester, finishing the last 1 2/3 innings without allowing a base runner.

The Worcester Bravehearts will play Game 2 of the FCBL Playoff Semi-Finals at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field in Worcester, MA on Tuesday, August 9th, at 7:05pm against the North Shore Navigators! Tickets for this game, and all Bravehearts home playoff games are available at the Hanover Insurance Park box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com, or by calling 508-438-3773.
