WORCESTER, Mass. - It was "Tower Power" t-shirt night at Hanover Insurace Park and Zach Tower (Franklin Pierce/Marlborough, MA), along with his Braveheart's teammates, certainly brought the power. Worcester (14-5) defeated the Torrington Titans (7-14) in dramatic fashion, with a final score of 13-9 in front of a crowd of 1,850.

Torrington started with a commanding lead when they scored eight runs in the first three innings against starting pitcher Mike Bruemmel (Wheaton College/Bridgewater, MA) and Danny Barlok (Holy Cross/Shrewsbury, MA). Bruemmel pitched just one inning, and allowed six earned runs on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout. Barlok added two innings of relief, conceding just one run on three hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Down 8-1, the Braveheart's got some much needed run support in the third. Mike Coggeshall (Assumption/Shrewsbury, MA) notched a RBI on a double, plating the team's second run. Tower followed with another double which scored two more, making the score 8-4.

Following the seventh inning stretch, the Bravehearts faced a three run deficit, but climbed back with six runs in the bottom of the inning. The scoring started with another Tower double, which drove in two runs. Then, Joe Caico (New Haven/Hopedale, MA) brought the crowd to its feet with a towering grand slam. Having taken the 11-8 lead, the Bravehearts would never look back.

Zach Whitaker (Saint Leo/Land O Lakes, FL), who would end up with the win, pitched through the eighth inning, giving up only one run. He ended his day with just one earned run on four hits with one walk and six strikeouts in his five innings of relief.

The Bravehearts added a two-run security blanket in the eighth and stretched their lead to 13-9, where it would stay.

For the Bravehearts, Coggeshall finished the game with three hits on three at bats, and he added two walks with three runs scored and two RBIs. Adam Donovan (DeSale/Somers, CT) received the loss for the Titans after recording no outs, but allowing three runs on two hits with one walk.
