Bravehearts Add Seven Local Players to Roster

Having already signed ten returning players from the 2015 Championship team, the Worcester Bravehearts today announced that seven more Massachusetts players will join the team when the season opens on June 2nd.
Central Massachusetts - and Worcester Academy in particular- is well-represented in the most recent crop of new talent. Franklin Pierce inNielder John Friday (Worcester Academy / Marlborough, MA) will join his former teammate Nick Barry (Worcester Academy / Grafton, MA) with the Bravehearts this summer. Friday is a sophomore who hit .265 for the Franklin Pierce Ravens in 23 games last season. At Worcester Academy, he was a Central Massachusetts All Star in his sophomore year and was named Team MVP and an All-League selection as a senior. Barry is a sophomore catcher at UMass-Lowell who started 17 games in his freshman season. He hit .300 as a junior at Worcester Academy with an on base percentage just under .500 and was a captain of the baseball team.
Two Holy Cross freshmen will take the mound for the Bravehearts this summer after Ninishing their spring seasons at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. Danny Barlok (St. John's HS / Shrewsbury, MA) is a right-handed pitcher who played two seasons at Saint John's High School in Shrewsbury and was named Most Valuable Pitcher in the MBCA Junior Select All Star Game. Pat McGowan (St. Sebastian's HS / Wellesley, MA) pitched three years at St. Sebastian's and served as team captain his senior year. He posted a 12-4 career record with a 2.16 ERA and 196 strikeouts in 148 innings pitched.
Two other pitchers will join their college teammates with the Bravehearts in June. Sophomore Tom Horstkotte (St. John's HS / Milford, MA) will join Shrewsbury's Mike Coggeshall as Assumption Greyhounds playing for the Bravehearts while Wheaton College sophomore Brady Furdon (Natick HS / Natick, MA) will join 2015 All-Futures League team selection Mike Bruemmel on the Fitton Field mound. Horstkotte appeared in 7 games as a freshman at Assumption with a 3.09 ERA in 11.2 innings pitched. Furdon was a member of the Wheaton Lyons starting rotation as a freshman and was third on the team with 41.2 innings pitched. He posted a 6-2 record and a 3.67 ERA. At Natick High School, he earned three varsity letters and was the captain of the baseball team his senior year.
The Bravehearts will also have their Nirst Millbury player on the roster with the addition of Ryan Ward (Millbury HS / Bryant), who will be heading to Bryant University in the fall. Ward is a senior captain for the Millbury High School team splitting time between catcher and outNield. He has also played for the Grafton Hill Legion team and was selected to play in the 2015 Under Armour Pre- Season All-America Tournament. Bravehearts Assistant Coach Kevin Hartigan is also a Millbury High School grad and was elected into the school's Hall of Fame in November.
Season tickets, 7-game packs, and group outings for the 2016 season are now on sale by calling the Bravehearts' ofNice at 508-438-3773. Opening night is Thursday, June 2nd in Seacoast and the home opener will be Friday, June 3rd vs. Wachusett.
