BILOXI, MS. - The Southern League of Professional Baseball announced on Wednesday that Biloxi Shuckers' right-handed pitcher Brandon Woodruff has been named the league's MiLB.com Pitcher of the Month for July. The third-year pro becomes the first Shuckers' pitcher to earn the monthly accolade.

During the month of July, the 23-year-old went 3-1 with a 0.29 ERA (1er/30.2ip) with 42 strikeouts and only five walks, while posting a WHIP of 0.72. The 6'4" hurler's ERA dropped by over two runs from 5.68 to 3.28. The Wheeler, Miss. native is in the midst of a 24.1 scoreless inning streak heading into Wednesday's doubleheader against the Jacksonville Suns.

The 2014 11th round draft pick of the Brewers in 2014 tied a career high with 10 strikeouts against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on 13th, and repeated the feat during his last outing of the month on the 29th against the Mobile BayBears. The Milwaukee Brewers' 25th-ranked prospect set the mark on Aug. 18, 2015 against the Daytona Tortugas while pitching for the Brevard County Manatees (MIL, A+).

The former Mississippi State Bulldog retired 18 of 19 batters faced during an outing against the Blue Wahoos on the 24th, taking a perfect game into the fifth before allowing a leadoff single to Sebastian Elizalde.

Overall in 2016, Woodruff has a combined record of 9-7 with a 2.71 ERA (34er/113.0ip) between the Manatees (eight games) and Shuckers (13 games). The righty leads the Brewers' affiliates with 127 strikeouts.

Biloxi finishes its series against Jacksonville on Thursday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. 2015 Milwaukee Brewers' Minor League Pitcher of the Year RHP Jorge Lopez (0-1, 3.60) toes the rubber for the Shuckers against Suns' right-hander Hunter Adkins (2-5, 5.23). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., with coverage starting at 5:45 p.m. on the Biloxi Shuckers' Radio Network's flagship station WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM, Pascagoula's WPMO 1580 AM and the TuneIn Radio app.
