Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - For the second straight year the Brandon Wheat Kings are off to the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference Final.

The Wheat Kings scored on three of their first five shots Friday night and went on to beat the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors 7-3 before a packed house of over 5,300 fans at Westman Communications Group Place.

With the win, the Wheat Kings won the best of seven series four games to one and will now meet the winner of the Red Deer-Regina series in the Eastern Conference Final, beginning next weekend in Brandon.

Tim McGauley scored three times to pace the Wheat Kings, who led 3-1 and 7-3 at the period breaks.

Ty Lewis, Mitch Wheaton, Tyler Coulter and Captain Macoy Erkamps also scored for the Wheat Kings, who outshot the Warriors 36-29.

Tanner Jeannot, Jayden Halbgewachs and Nikita Popugaev scored in a losing cause for the Warriors, who scored twice in the second to pull to within a pair after forty minutes.

In the third, Coulter's goal at the 2:22 mark added some insurance for the Wheat Kings, who have now won eight of their last nine playoff games. McGauley's third goal - into an empty net - rounded out the scoring.

Brandon was 1-3 with the man advantage while killing off three of 4 minor penalties.

Tickets to games one and two of the Eastern Conference Final - set for Friday and Saturday, April 22nd and 23rd - go on sale at 11am Saturday at the Keystone Centre box office. Western Manitoba hockey fans can also order online at keystonecentre.com or by calling (204) 726-3555.

Red Deer beat the Pats 5-1 Friday night to take a 3-2 lead in the other Eastern Conference Semi-Final. Game six of that series will be Sunday afternoon in Regina.

Brandon defeated Calgary in last year's Eastern Conference Final.
