Brandon Defazio Named Bruins' 2015-16 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins are proud to announce that Brandon DeFazio has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Rhode Island community during the 2015-16 season.

In his first season with Providence, Brandon has immersed himself in the greater Rhode Island area community by taking on many charitable and community related efforts. In December, he spearheaded a team-wide holiday "adopt a family" project, which included the entire team adopting 5 families and shopping for items on their wish lists. In addition, he volunteered at a clothing and toy drive for foster families, spent afternoons at the local Boys & Girls club playing with kids and helping with homework. He was an active supporter of eight year old Dorian Murray who had terminal cancer and met him when he came out to game. He participated in the Ringling Bros. "Pi(e) Day" which consisted of circus clowns pie-ing local celebrities for charity. He was given 100 circus tickets which he donated to Foster Forward of Rhode Island on behalf of the team. This is the fourth time in his career that he has been his team's winner of this award.

DeFazio is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2015-16 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League at a later date.
