Brahmas double up Ice Bats, 4-2

Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

Left wing Chad Woollard scored two third period goals and goaltender Dan Murphy stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced to lead the Fort Worth Brahmas to a 4-2 win over the Austin Ice Bats on Tuesday night at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

The game was the second in a row between the Brahmas and the Ice Bats. Fort Worth had defeated Austin 1-0 in a shootout this past Saturday night, Dec. 18, in Austin.

Tuesday night's game was another hard fought struggle. After a scoreless first period, the Brahmas took a 1-0 lead 3:30 into the second period when forward Nick Udovicic banged home a rebound goal. The powerplay goal was Udovicic's second of the season. Austin, however, bounced right back after the Brahmas goal. Just 1:07 later, Ice Bats rookie forward Kris Knoblauch swept down the right wing side and slid the puck past Murphy for a shorthanded Ice Bats goal that tied the score at 1.

In the third period, Fort Worth forged back ahead. Woollard capitalized on a nice setup from Bryan Lundbohm with a goal from the left wing face off circle to give Fort Worth a 2-1 lead at the 3:51 mark of the third. The goal for Woollard was his Brahmas team and CHL leading 21st of the season. Shortly after Woollard's goal, Fort Worth center Aaron Davis converted on a breakaway goal to put the Brahmas up 3-1. A late goal by Ice Bats centerman Chris Richards drew the Bats to within 3-2, but Woollard then dashed any hopes of an Ice Bats comeback with his second goal of the game, an empty net goal, with just 1:02 left in regulation.

Murphy produced his second consecutive stellar performance in net for the Brahmas against the Bats. After recording a 29 save shutout performance on Saturday night in Austin, the Nanaimo, B.C. native came out Tuesday night and picked up right where he left off. He was especially dazzling in the second period, when he made several spectacular saves to keep the game tied at 1. Murphy had to be good for Fort Worth, as his Austin counterpart, Matt Barnes, turned away 26 of the 29 Brahmas shots he faced in the game.

The victory for Fort Worth (14-7-3) now puts the Brahmas back into sole possesion of first place in the CHL's Northeast Division. Austin drops to 11-11-2 on the year and remains in second place in the Southeast Division. The Brahmas will now be off for the Christmas holiday, as they do not take the ice again until this Sunday, Dec. 26, when they travel to Bossier City for a 5:05 p.m. game against the Mudbugs.
