Boyd Signs ECHL Contract with Rapid City

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars Hockey Club is pleased to announce forward Aaron Boyd (97) has signed an Amateur Tryout Contract with the Rapid City Rush in the ECHL.

Boyd is the third Cougars player to sign a professional contract in ECHL in the last two weeks, joining fellow 20-year-olds Jared Bethune (Allen Americans) and Brogan O'Brien (Missouri Mavericks).

"Aaron has earned this opportunity with his dedication and hard-work over his four-years with this organization," said Head Coach Richard Matvichuk. "He plays the game the right way and has developed into a very dependable two-way forward; I couldn't be happier for him."

Boyd, 20, set career highs in goals (14), assists (24) and points (38) in 67 games this season with the Cougars. In his four-year WHL career, Boyd compiled 34 goals, 50 assists for 84 points in 251 regular season games. He had three goals in 16 career playoff games. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native made his WHL debut on January 25th, 2014, in Brandon as a 16-year-old call-up. He was originally drafted by the Cougars in the second-round, 43rdoverall, in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

The Rapid City Rush are the ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild and are currently seventh in the ECHL's Mountain Division with a 21-40-3-3 record. Boyd could make his ECHL debut this weekend, as the Rush host the Quad City Mallards tonight and tomorrow in a weekend doubleheader.
