Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release

KEIZER - Volcanoes' catcher Zack Bowers was named Northwest League Player of the Week for the final week of the 2016 regular season the league announced on Tuesday. Bowers was the third and final member of the Volcanoes to receive player of the week recognition throughout the 2016 season.

Bowers finished the week batting 7-for-15 (.467) in five games and added three doubles, two home runs, 11 RBIs and three stolen bases. His .467 average was second in the league for the week while his extra-base hits, RBIs and OPS led the league.

The Salem-Keizer catcher led off the week with a three-hit game against Vancouver on Monday, Aug. 29. Two days later, he had two more hits to go along with four RBIs. He closed out the season with hits in the Volcanoes last two games of the season including three more RBIs in the season finale. Bowers' two home runs hit this week were the first two of his professional career.

Bowers was a 2015 24th round draft pick for the Giants out of Georgia. He has spent time with the Arizona League Giants and the Augusta GreenJackets in his brief two-year career.

Salem-Keizer closed out the season on Monday night with a convincing 12-2 win over the Boise Hawks. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
