Bounces Go Generals Way in Victory

January 3, 2013 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release

Brampton, Ontario - The Generals were getting all the bounces in Brampton as they defeated the Battalion 4-1 before a crowd of 2,469 at the Powerade Centre. Lady Luck was on the Generals side as two bizarre goals put the Generals up by two, and they never looked back. Daniel Altshuller was solid, allowing only one goal on the 17 shots he faced. Will Petschenig was a benefactor of a weird bounce off a dump in and scored his first career OHL goal, which turned out to be the game winner.

With Brampton providing most of the physical play, the Generals responded with the first goal of the game. Scott Laughton continued to have a hot stick, as he picked the puck up behind the net. Looking to pass the puck out front, the puck was deflected off a defender and bounced behind Battalion netminder Jake Smith giving the Generals a lead 4:18 into the game. The Generals would add to their lead at 18:10 on another fluke goal. A dump in by Will Petschenig bounced off the glass and into the net before Smith could recover after going out of the net to play the puck.

The Generals outshot the Battalion 15-9 in the first.

Brampton cut into the Generals lead late in the second as they outworked the Generals in their own end. Nicholas Foglia grabbed the puck through a crowd in the corner before throwing the puck in front to Blake Clarke. Clarke waited just long enough for the goaltender Altshuller to bite before he chipped it over the falling goaltender to cut the Generals lead in half.

The Generals took over in the third, shutting down the surging Battalion team and limiting them to just three shots in the third.

The score was added to shortly after a Generals powerplay wore down the Brampton defenders. At 9:13 Bradley Latour picked up a rebound just outside the crease and before anyone could get to him, tucked the puck around Smith giving the Generals a 3-1 lead. Cole Cassels sealed the deal for Oshawa as he added an empty netter, ensuring the Generals victory.

The Generals outshot Brampton 25-17.

Scott Laughton and Will Petschenig picked up the first and third star selections.

The Generals continue on the road as they make their way to Kingston as they take on the Frontenacs tomorrow. Game is set to start at 7:00pm. They then travel to Ottawa on the 9th to take on the 67's.

The Generals return to the General Motors Centre on the 11th as they host the Peterborough Petes. Puck drop is at 7:35pm.
