Daytona Tortugas News Release

Clearwater, FL - The Daytona Tortugas (3-2, 39-35) rallied to score the final four runs of the game in a 5-4 ten-inning win against the Clearwater Threshers (4-1, 43-30) Monday night at Bright House Field. Brian O'Grady clubbed his seventh homer to tie the game in the top of the ninth and Garrett Boulware drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the tenth. The win came a day after Clearwater won by the same score in 10 innings Sunday.

For the second straight game, Daytona scored in their first look at Clearwater pitching. Ty Washing led the game off with a double, moved to third on a Blake Trahan fly ball, and scored on a Chace Numata passed ball to take an early 1-0 lead.

Like Daytona repeating their early success, Clearwater duplicated their ability to erase a lead in the series when they tied the game in the fifth on an RBI double to center field by Jiandido Tromp. The Threshers padded their lead the following inning when Kyle Martin smacked a three-run homer to right field, after Scott Kingery and Mitch Walding each reached on infield singles, to make it a 4-1 Clearwater advantage.

The Tortugas stormed back in the eighth. A one-out double by Gavin LaValley set the tone before Aristides Aquino smacked an RBI triple in to the right field corner to make it a 4-2 deficit for Daytona. It was Aquino's fourth triple in his last five games. Tanner Rahier followed with a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Aquino and draw the Tortugas within a run.

In the ninth, O'Grady tied the game on the first pitch he saw against RHP Ulises Joaquin (0-1) to give Daytona life. He drilled his seventh home run to right field with one out in the frame. It was O'Grady's second homer against Clearwater, with the other being a walk-off winner in April.

In the top of the tenth, Aquino and Rahier set the stage with back-to-back leadoff singles before Boulware singled up the middle for his 11th RBI of the year, putting Daytona up for good, 5-4.

Daytona's RHP El'Hajj Muhammad (1-0) stranded the game-winning run at second base in the ninth and picked up his first win of the season with Daytona. RHP Jimmy Herget worked around a one-out walk and struck out the final two batters of the game to earn his FSL leading 13th save of the season.

The Tortugas look to earn the series win in the finale Tuesday. LHP Ismael Guillon (1-2, 3.83 ERA) will start for Daytona against RHP John Richy (4-4, 5.62). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM and the Chili's pregame show will begin at 6:50 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.

Notes: Aquino finished the night with three hits and has extended his hitting streak to 14 games...Daytona stranded 11 men on base and was just 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position... RHP Jimmy Moran, Muhammad, and Herget combined to toss 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief... It was Daytona's first win in Clearwater this season.
