Boston Cannons News Release

BOSTON, MA - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today they will host their third annual "Cannons Fighting Cancer" night at the team's home game on August 4 at Harvard Stadium against the reigning MLL Champion Ohio Machine.

Cannons Fighting Cancer was established in 2016 as a fundraising effort to drive funds and awareness to support philanthropic organizations with missions to fight against cancer. In 2016, Cannons Fighting Cancer raised more than $120,000 for the National Foundation for Cancer Research and specifically Dr. Daniel Haber' Research Lab at MGH in Boston. In 2017, the Cannons were able to raise over $80,000 for the Boston Children's Hospital's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. Boston Children's Hospital's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center will once again be the beneficiary of Cannons Fighting Cancer in 2018.

"The Cannons organization is proud to unite the Boston lacrosse community in the battle against cancer and support those working to find a cure," said Boston Cannons President Ian Frenette. "As the signature charitable event for our team, we're excited to once again raise funds to aid Boston Children's hospital and recognize those who are making a difference in combatting this disease."

Cannons Fighting Cancer will bring together and honor members of the Greater Boston medical, science, philanthropic, survivor and lacrosse communities for their continuous efforts in the fight against cancer as part of the team's "Cannons Champions for Cancer." Cannons fans can nominate inspirational individuals making an impact against cancer to be recognized at the game through BostonCannons.com/Cannons-Fighting-Cancer. The 2018 Champions will join former Cannons Champions at a pre-game reception in their honor and then be invited to stay for the Cannons game against the Ohio Machine.

There are multiple ways for fans to support and participate in the fundraising efforts for this initiative including Pledge Programming, Youth Team Fundraisers, Merchandise Sales, and Cannons Player Fundraising. The Cannons have created an online pledge program, similar to the 2017 program, that will be the main initiative for fundraising efforts. For every goal scored by the Cannons throughout the 2018 season, fans can pledge to donate "X" amount of dollars per goal. In the past four years, Cannons average around 175 goals per season. Granite Telecommunications, OPTUM, and trimino have all pledged already. Additionally, select Cannons players will participate in post-game target games to raise additional funds. For each target hit, the Boston Cannons Foundation will donate to our fundraising efforts.
