Boshers Dominant Again as Wichita Claims Series

Wichita Wingnuts News Release

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Wichita Wingnuts got another great outing from Alex Boshers and stretched their series unbeaten streak to 13 in a row with a 6-1 win in their rubber match with the Texas AirHogs Thursday night at AirHog Stadium.

The Wingnuts (39-20) wasted no time in scoring the night's first run. Christian Stringer started the evening by tripling off of Cody Hebner (2-7) into the right-center field gap, then scored one pitch later on a ground out by Zack Cox.

Wichita added four more to their lead in the third. With runners on the corners and one out, Cox picked up his second RBI of the evening with a single. Brent Clevlen followed with a triple to bring home two, and was then brought in by T.J. Mittelstaedt.

The five-run lead was plenty for Boshers (6-3), who did not allow a hit until the fourth. Texas (21-38) picked up their lone run of the night in that frame, as a two-out single by Devon Rodriguez plated Leon Byrd.

For the night, Boshers allowed five hits and one walk over eight innings, inducing three double plays while also striking out five AirHogs. The start is the righty's fourth quality start in a row, and sixth in eight outings since joining the rotation.

After Texas scored their lone run in the fourth, Wichita got that run right back to restore the five-run cushion in the fifth. Stringer started the inning with a single, ending up on third after a two-base error by Burt Reynolds. Cox then followed with another ground ball to pick up his third RBI of the night.

Frankie Reed came on for the final inning for the Wingnuts and after letting the first two reach, the lefty struck out the next three to give Wichita the series victory. The win stretches the Wingnuts series unbeaten streak to 13, a run that includes 12 series victories and one split.

The Wingnuts head home Friday to begin a three-game series with the Joplin Blasters at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. In the series opener, Wichita will send right-hander Jon Link (7-3, 3.60) to the hill, while Joplin will counter with lefty Isaac Hess (0-1, 21.60). First pitch is set for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
