FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Minnesota Twins announced the 2018 Fort Myers Miracle coaching staff today. It includes new manager Ramon Borrego, who spent the past seven seasons in the same role with the GCL Twins.
Borrego enters his 22nd season in the Twins organization. He led the GCL Twins to a 35-23 record in 2017 and a first place finish in the South Division. Borrego was originally signed by Minnesota as an undrafted free agent in 1995. He spent 1996-2002 as a player in the Twins organization and began his coaching career in 2004 at the Twins Venezuelan Baseball Academy. He was the field manager of the Twins Dominican Republic Baseball Academy in 2009 and joined the GCL Twins as a coach in 2010, before being named manager in 2011. Borrego was born in Maracay, VZ and resides in Mariara, Carabobo, VZ.
Henry Bonilla returns for his third season as Miracle pitching coach in 2018. His previous coaching stops in the Twins organization include Single-A Cedar Rapids in 2015, Rookie Level Elizabethton in 2013-14, and the GCL Twins in 2012. Bonilla was selected in the eighth round of the 2000 draft by Minnesota and pitched in 10 minor league seasons, including seven in the Twins organization. He was born in San Salvador, El Salvador and resides in Greensboro, NC. Bonilla is a graduate of Galena (NV) High School and attended Lassen (CA) CC and Tulane University.
Steve Singleton will begin his second season as hitting coach in Fort Myers and his third as a hitting coach in the Twins organization. He held the position with the GCL Twins in 2016. Singleton played parts of six seasons in the minor leagues with the Twins and Phillies. He was originally selected by the Twins in the 11th round of the 2006 draft out of the University of San Diego. Singleton was born in San Francisco, CA.
Steve Taylor begins his first season as the Miracle trainer after serving five seasons as a trainer for the GCL Twins (2013-14), Elizabethton (2015), and Cedar Rapids (2016-17).
Jacob Dean returns to Fort Myers for his second season as strength and conditioning coach.
